The Liberal government abstained from the vote on declaring China's treatment of Uyghurs a genocide. Erin O'Toole and the Conservative party will stand up to China and stand up for Canada's values.
Erin O'Toole
We have to stand up for what is right. The Chinese Communist Party's horrific conduct against Uyghur and other Turkic Muslims is a genocide. MPs voted to recognize this today. The testimony from witnesses and survivors of the camps has been horrifying and we've heard accounts of the forced sterilization of women.
Instead of standing with us, Justin Trudeau and most of his team didn't even show up for work this afternoon. Their coordinated absence speaks volumes.
There is no doubt about it. A genocide is being carried out. Canada may be a smaller, in terms of population, but we are a towering giant when it comes to our commitment to human rights. That is why Conservatives call on the Trudeau government to show up for work on human rights and stop their naïve approach to the Chinese Communist Party.
It's time for the Government of Canada to officially call this a genocide and send a strong message.
